Exercise #1

The Role of Typography in Product UX

Over 90% of information on the web and in mobile apps is presented as written language. Typography is not merely graphic decoration; it is the primary user interface through which users comprehend products, navigate flows, and make decisions.

A disciplined typography system achieves three critical UX goals:

  1. Information Hierarchy: Establishes clear relationships between page titles (h1), section dividers (h2), card headers (h3), and supporting body copy.
  2. Reading Ergonomics: Optimizes font size, line height, and line length so users can read paragraphs without fatigue or disorientation.
  3. Cognitive Scannability: Allows users to rapidly scan a dashboard or table and identify key metrics in under 3 seconds.
