Exercise #3

Rewriting Hypothetical Questions into Grounded Stories

Transform forward-looking hypothetical questions into retrospective behavioral stories:

  • Biased / Hypothetical: 'How often would you use our mobile app to track receipts?'
  • Objective / Grounded: 'Think back to the last business expense you filed. Walk me through what you did from the moment you paid until the receipt was submitted.'

By asking for a specific, grounded narrative, you capture real tools, unexpected workarounds, emotional pain points, and context of use that abstract questions never reveal.
