Exercise #3

Monochromatic & Analogous Harmonies in UI Systems

Monochromatic Palettes

A monochromatic palette is derived from a single base hue, modulated strictly across lightness and saturation tints and shades:

  • Application: Ideal for enterprise applications, data dashboards, and clean editorial products.
  • Advantage: Zero risk of chromatic clash. Provides a calm, unified aesthetic where content takes center stage.

Analogous Harmonies

Analogous color schemes pair 2 to 4 hues that sit immediately adjacent to each other on the color wheel (e.g., Blue, Blue-Green, and Green):

  • Application: Common in nature-inspired, wellness, or environmental digital products.
  • Advantage: Creates smooth, organic visual transitions with low optical friction while offering richer visual variety than a single hue.
