Exercise #1

Typography as the Voice of User Interface

Over 90% of the information consumed on the web is written text. In the words of typographic pioneer Emil Ruder, "Typography has one of the plainest and most unambiguous duties to perform: to communicate knowledge by means of the written word."

In modern digital products, typography fulfills two simultaneous roles:

  1. Ergonomic Function: Ensuring effortless legibility and readability across varying viewing distances, screen densities, and environmental lighting conditions.
  2. Brand & Emotional Voice: Setting the psychological tone—authoritative, playful, analytical, or elegant—before the user reads a single sentence.
